Sagem’s MyS-7 has strong pluses and some serious minuses. Its easy customisability, generally quick response times, T9 input, large and sharp colour screen, and good looks made me want to run out and buy one right away. But its tendency to hang, loose five-way button, relatively short battery life and long startup time, stopped me in my tracks. The biggest disappointment was the smartphone’s tendency to lock up for no apparent reason. People can’t afford to find that their cellphone has suffered the equivalent of a “blue screen of death,” especially during an emergency or when they’re expecting an important call. At RM1,699, the MyS-7 is probably the cheapest Microsoft smartphone in the local market. It’s nearest rival is the candybar-styled O2 Xphone which was being sold here for RM1,888 a few weeks ago. But then again, the Xphone has Bluetooth, and the MyS-7 doesn’t. Pros: Good-looking phone feels sturdy quick response time screen displays vibrant colours easy customisability reasonable price. Cons: Prone to locking up loose five-way directional button relatively short battery life.
