O2 Xphone II Review

O2 Xphone IILike the O2 Xda IIs, the O2 Xphone II is an icon of intelligent architecture with a striking black design. At only 102 grams, the O2 Xphone II is the slimmest Smartphone in the market. Even as its size rivals those of regular mobile phones, information displayed on the O2 Xphone II is showcased on a comparatively larger 2.2-inch, 65K-colour TFT-LCD screen that is now brighter and with higher contrast. A graphite-coloured, ridged keyboard further provides handsome accompaniment to the phone’s black casing, and completes its beautiful looks.

Performance-wise, the phone was able to deliver quality voice calls and even good SMS messages when the glitches don't act up. However, we found the speakerphone to be quiet. We also found that several calls were missed because the ring tones were quiet and had no vibrating alert. We also found that there is some delay between pressing the button for photos and when the phone actually takes the photo. There seems to be a theme of slowness among the phone features. The menu was slow to come out; access to the Internet was slow and the video was slow. The battery life was good, lasting around 5 days between charging even with regular use. Overall, the Xphone II has the potential to become a popular smart phone. But with the rapid emergence of better smart phones with lesser glitches, the Xphone II might find it hard to convince users that it is the phone for them.

Those who deemed Microsoft's foray into the mobile market as futile should probably eat their words now. The software giant has been making inroads into the smart phone market and proven it's a force not to be impeded easily. O2's polished Xphone II looks set to sustain that momentum. Not merely a facelift of the Xphone, it gets a technical upgrade via hardware and software...Offering a rich feature and multimedia set, we’re sure this remarkably compact smart phone will go down well with mobile professionals and multimedia buffs on the move. Just be prepared for occasional slowdowns.

I hear that it is not possible to activate vibrating mode simultaneouslywhile the ringtone is activated.Further, because of the problem stated above AND that the ring volume is so low that one tends to miss calls quite often .Is this true?Im particularily intrested about the speaker performance.how does it compare to, say S700i , while listening to MP3?Thanks.and oh, hello.this is my first post.

The phone is an O2 branded version of the i-mate SP3i. It is an excellent phone and definately worth getting. www.imate.com should answer your questions on it's processor etc, alternatively check out the discussion here: http://www.mobile9.com/invboard/index.php?showtopic=6291

QUOTE(expert_21 @ Jan 7 2005, 03:37 PM)This topic discusses O2 Xphone II. Please post your review and opinion regarding O2 Xphone II here. Hello everyone, I'm new around here. I've been using Symbian UIQ 7.0 Sony Ericsson P900 for a while, and I really would like to know about O2 Xphone II's Windows Mobile 2nd-edition. I've read the comparison but it didn't really explain thoroughly. I'd appreciate any comments or even insights about O2 Xphone II. For instance, its processor, Quickoffice/word-editing software etc. I'm interested in getting one if it's better than my P900 in some ways.Cheers,
