For most of us, no convergence device has quite reached perfection. The XDA II, while impressive, still has a far way to go before being perfect. But for those who can look past the XDA II's imperfections, you'll find that this is one of the most well made smartphones on the market. This is definitely one of the few devices out there that almost everyone will like: its combination of style and features will make it attractive to anyone from an ordinary student to a company CEO. Yes it is expensive, but you probably won't find a better way to spend that amount cash while reducing the number of gadgets in your pocket.

One thing's for sure: The O2 Xda II is nothing to sneeze at. From the moment you feel the considerable heft to the point you gasp at its equally considerable price tag, you know it's not for the faint-hearted. Equipped with 128MB of memory, running on a 400MHz processor, offering integrated Bluetooth, GPRS and camera functions, it is one of the most powerful mobile machines around. But the Xda II is no metal brute. Instead it is, surprisingly, one of the most polished PDA-phones on the market...Then again, the Xda II isn't for everyone anyway. If you're really looking for a phone part-timing as a handheld, the Xda II will be too big, too clumsy, and too expensive for you. However, the Xda II works if you are a true mobile warrior--the type who drafts reports in a taxi, surfs the Web while having lunch, and has both pockets stuffed with gadgets. The Microsoft Pocket PC's polished PIM interface, the awesome feature set, and the large, gorgeous display make this machine a truly viable one-piece mobile office.

I see that it was not just stupid me who lost outlook data after a hard reset. I performed some resets, on O2 support advice, because of an 'insensitive touchscreen'. It seemed to help temporarily but with the above problem. The last time I did it though I could not pass the setup screen because you need to tap that .... not very well thought through. The main problem is that I am stranded without a phone on which half my clients call me so I had to buy a new one immediately because the service centre does not give that kind of service.

i got my XDA II-s 2 days ago now (1/4/2005). ive used the bluetooth function many times with my friends and found no problems. perhaps o2 have fixed the problem with the blurtooth. although, i must admit i am swaping my XDA II-s foe the XDA II-i only because of what i do demands a slightly faster processor and higher quality camera. the i has a 1.3Mp cam compared to the 0.3Mp of the s. Hope some of u found this to be useful.

QUOTE(BLNora @ Mar 18 2005, 03:03 PM) I had an XDA IIs for a month (Jan-Feb 05), in fact I had three XDA IIs over the course of the month and I had similar problems with all of them.  The O2 data support department finally acknowledged there were issues with the product (customer service appeared oblivious to these) - the worst being that the bluetooth did not work properly or consistently.  Other problems included the system hanging, which sometimes needed a complete reset - if you are not careful, the fact the phone has lost all contact details will trigger a wipeout of all contact details in Outlook when reconnected to the PC.It would have been a great gadget if it worked.I now have a Nokia 9500 from Vodafone which is fine but I am still waiting to get a refund from O2 - nearly two months on.  i've had the same problem, at the end of the day the os is made by ms.good potential, but it's bigger than it looks. 6/10
