Nokia E61 Review

Nokia E61Built for mobile email The Nokia E61 is designed in the familiar style of today's most popular mobile email devices. Yet it is incredibly slim and packed with powerful new functionality. A cinch to use with either hand, the device has a four-way joystick and full keyboard combined with a wide 16 million color screen making mobile email easier than ever before. Supporting multiple mobile email clients like BlackBerry Connect, GoodLink, Nokia Business Center, Seven Mobile Mail, Seven Always-On Mail, and Visto Mobile, the Nokia E61 provides seamless and encrypted mobile connectivity. Full attachment handling (documents, spreadsheets, presentations, PDF viewer and ZIP manager) and an editing function (document, spreadsheet and presentation) are included. The Nokia E61 also includes the same advanced business call features and IP-based telephony functions as the Nokia E60 and Nokia E70. The Nokia E61 can send and receive emails, even when on a phone call.

Nokia E61 Review (Expert)

People who are familiar with other Series 60 smartphones won't have any problems with using it and will find all the usual features included. Is E61 good for reading and creating documents and messages? Yes, the full QWERTY keyboard makes text entry much faster and much more convenient than on any other S60 device. Built-in Microsoft Office compatible applications make very good use of the large screen and provide similiar functionality as on the Nokia 9500/9300(i) which makes the E61 a very good choice for people who need mobile access to email and documents but consider the Communicators too large or too heavy. Is the E61 good for mobile Internet? Yes, it provides all popular connectivity options (UMTS, EDGE, GPRS, WLAN), large display and exceptionally fast and powerful browser. Is it a multimedia device? Sure, it generates high definition stereo sound, it's fast enough to display good quality video and the proportions and physical size of the screen make it a very good movie player. Shortly speaking, the Nokia E61 is the most advanced Series 60 smartphone released to date. The only thing non-business users may regret is lack of high-resolution camera, which would make the device complete. If you like devices of this size, just get it! It's the most powerful S60 smartphone ever made. Highly recommended.

Most of the weight is at the top of the handset. And while that might seem like a bad thing, the designers of the hardware have made it work. It sits nicely in one hand. The E61 is a strange smartphone to sum up. It wants to do so many things, and on the whole it manages to do them well. It’s quite clearly in the “first-gen” category, and a lot of work needs to be done to make the S60 interface work for the user with the large screen and the keyboard – there are times where the device was not letting me do what I wanted to do. The E61 is everything a power-user of PDA’s is looking for – but it’s a smartphone, not a computer. Less a wolf in sheep’s clothing, but a very aggressive ram in ewe’s clothing. If Nokia can tame a second generation version, or look at a serious firmware update, then the E61 would be ready to go mainstream. As it is, a lot of people are going to label it the next best thing – but it’s not quite there yet. I look forward to updates to S60, but in the meantime I can live with the quirks. The E61 is, at the moment, the one for me.

The E61 does what Nokia does best: connects people. Its all-encompassing connectivity setup is exploited in full by a broad line-up of quality messaging, office and browsing applications which run in tandem with a superb screen and more than decent thumbboard. Granted, it's not among the most powerful business phones nor does it fare well in the department of synchronization - but the latter is at long last addressable by several third party solutions. Sprinkle with handy utilities, attention to detail, good battery life and a compact form factor, and you end up with a very solid business phone contender indeed. What's positive: Excellent screen; all-encompassing connectivity; broad functionality; compact size; good battery life. What's negative: Thumbboard slightly cramped; inconvenient miniSD card slot arrangement; lacking synchronization.

It's really the best mobile I ever use I call it the (email machine). It has reduced the number of times of using my laptop at home, I don't need to open it when I want to check my emails... so smart, fast and intelligent.

This phone is almost excellent. Most ppl won't consider buying it because it lacks a camera. From my point of view, it is unnecessary. The conectivity, and E-mail are the key features of this phone, also VoIP, and SIPTalk. Most excellent. Now some1 can talk over the internet for free. For those of u who had trouble installing some software, do the following:Menu>Tools>Application Manager>Options>Software Instalation = ALLOnline Certificate Check = OFFThat should solve all the problems.

No EDGE is a deal breaker. Maybe the next revision will include this and I'll jump all over it. But for now, I'm on the sidelines.
