Nokia 7380 Review
Sleek and seductive, the etched mirrored surface and discreet keyless dial of the Nokia 7380 invites glances, even stares. A leather cover and a mirrored display subtly mask the sophisticated technology, which includes a 2-megapixel camera and intuitive voice dialing. The centrepiece of the L'Amour Collection, the Nokia 7380 is aimed at trend-setting men and women who enjoy being the centre of attention - and are willing to spend a little extra on the finer things in life.
Nokia 7380 Review (Expert)
If in case with Nokia 7280 all program functions followed from a leader of the product range, Nokia 6230, in the given model they result from Nokia 6230i. Work with music files, phonebooks and other trifles are realized similarly in these devices. The singularity of appearance, approved by Nokia brand, will whip some women to this model. The device does not have any problems with connection quality; volume of 64-voice polyphony is high. Mp3 or AAC files may be used as a ring tone. The power of vibracall is average, it is not always felt. Unfortunately, this model has no stylish leather cover, as Nokia 7280. It is replaced with a usual handbag in style of other models of the series. Strong points of this model are the following: completely realized voice dialing without preliminary training, presence of the quite good camera and preservation of other functions of the previous model. Model is extremely design, but against to Nokia 7360 where the style is noticeable, here it is shaded. Developing the model manufacturer laid stress on a technical component and options instead of showiness. In my opinion, Nokia 7280 may be considered a sample of such type of devices (it did not fall in price and also sales stayed at the same level). Nokia 7380 was created mostly for those who searches the compromise between new technologies, an opportunity to spark in a society and the design. Model is ambiguous and not for mass, as well as Nokia 7280. But it is focused on a little bit other audience and will be quite successful for it.
The Nokia 7380 bears no resemblence to an ordinary mobile phone, providing an Apple iPod-style scroll wheel for navigation and text input as opposed to a keypad. On the upside, it's smaller than most phones and also sports a widescreen display, but its mediocre battery life and virtually unusable text input hamper use to the extent that it cannot be recommended as a daily-use handset. Using it to show off, however, is another matter altogether. What's positive: Small and light; good camera performance; stand-out design What's negative: Mediocre battery life; text input virtually unusable; smudges up in 2 milliseconds
Nokia 7380, which is part of Nokia's L'Amour fashion collection, is the successor to the 7280. As with the 7280, the similarly shaped 7380 doesn't look like a phone at all. With its mirror finish and designer motifs inspired by "craft and ethnic influences," it certainly looks like it's meant to be a fashion accessory first, a phone second. This shape lends itself to an easy fit in the pocket, and it feels cozy in the hand. It's also surprisingly comfortable when held to the ear. On the downside, the screen is very difficult to see under direct light because of the mirror finish. Also, the contrast, brightness, and backlighting time can't be changed. Font size can be changed only within text messages and not elsewhere. Users with vision impairments may have a hard time with this phone. We were disappointed that there are no volume rocker and no dedicated camera button on the phone. We tested the triband Nokia 7380 world phone. Call quality was good, and even though callers on the other line knew we were on a cell phone, the sound was still crystal clear, as was music sound quality. The speakerphone was nice and loud too. Despite the higher image quality, it was difficult to note the difference when capturing an image because of the phone's screen size. Resulting images were surprisingly clear and detailed for a camera phone, and the captured videos were good enough, considering its low resolution.
At the end of the day, the 7380 is simply an old design bearing a completely new look, one that shares little to no resemblance to its predecessor – apart from the fact that they both come in an almost-identical form factor. But the wand-like “lipstick phone” design, as many people know them by, is still unique to Nokia and its fashion collection series. As much as they may be similar, though, they are actually quite different in the eyes of its target audience. Being a fashion phone, what needs to be new is the look of it – or its aesthetical presentation. There is no doubt that the 7380 takes on a completely new look and feel, in an emotive sense, as compared to the 7280 – and, in most cases, that is really what only matters. Of course, the 7380 receives a number of feature addition and enhancements – which also contribute towards the list of “what’s new” for this latest model. But really, for someone who is willing to take ownership of such a phone, considering the technical aspects of the handset isn’t exactly top priority. Should you want to consider owning the 7380, it may be a good idea to consider getting it as a second phone – rather than having it replace what you’re currently using. In both practicality and performance aspects, a more-typical handset design would offer a far more usable interface and overall per-charge battery life.
