Motorola MPx220 Review (Expert)

When the model will be released it will not have any real competitors, it will allow it to conquer the niche and become as popular as Motorola MPx200 was. The only competitor is Nokia 7610, but here it is the question of your preferences, the users will be forced to make a choice between Windows or Symbian. Motorola MPx200 is good in the role of casual mobile phone, it has all required functions, and the most important – it has Bluetooth. We cannot call this phone an ideal one, it has issues like MPx200 had, but most of them are problems of the OS. In my opinion this model will be popular and will become well spread in shortest terms.

The MPx220's fast 200-MHz OMAP 1611 processor ensures fast loading programs and multitasking capabilities for maximum productivity. And the suite of applications available combined with the J2ME platforms give consumers access to a wide variety of productivity tools and games. However the quality of the camera is lacking. Although better than most, the 1-megapixel camera fell short compared to similar cameras on other models; having color accuracy problems and haloing along the edges. Another issue regarded the ergonomics and the usability of the oversized keypad... Being an all-in-one package, the Motorola MPx220 is worth considering from the business user and road warrior, to the tech savvy at heart.

When it comes to being a phone first, the issue that Motorola must resolve quickly, for the phone’s success, is the microphone or the phone not transmitting the voice properly. And it would be good if the earpiece and speakerphone volume is increased by a notch. Using a headset is a nice workaround but not a solution. I found some random software problems. Occasionally the external and main display will stay on, instead of blanking out after the timeout. A reboot fixes this problem. On the topic of rebooting, the phone rebooted itself twice. Another thing I noticed is that when the battery is dangerously low, the Bluetooth radio is shut off, but the Bluetooth icon remains in the iconbar. And on the bright side, the phone in the last three weeks has never frozen up on me. I never had to pull the battery out to soft reset the device. As a long time Smartphone user, the MPx220 has impressed me by this feat. Motorola's MPx220 stands out of the Smartphone crowd because of its superb styling and clam shell design. Clam shell lovers would instantly adopt this model. Others should look at the differences between the MPx220 and candy-bar Smartphones. Quad-band, fast dual core processor, keypad/joypad and the externally accessible miniSD slot are the main advantages. As the second generation Smartphone, Motorola has got the specifications right. The Smartphone has all the ingredients to make it a successful model in the market. The only thing stopping it is a couple of fixes, which Motorola can release in the form of a firmware update.

awesome Awesome AWESOME phone. Sadly after 3 years I've gone through 2 of them. Original and Black, but enjoyed all the Apps i downloaded, and all the tweaks I found and used in RegEdit.Used it on a daily basis for phone, internet, texting, and for listening to my music and watching music videos while at the gym. Also great for snowboarding and listening to music.Very durable phone, but the first one I wore out the charging end of it, so I needed a new one, and that one just started to die, losing settings and files and such.I would of bought a 3rd one but then saw the new HTC Touch which I have now, and am enjoying almost as much. Not as compact as the MPX220 but very nice. Will probably use the MPX220 as strictly a portable media player/phone for snowboarding now.
